Job Summary
Newberry Group seeks a part time, as needed (maximum of 960 hours per year), Security Control Assessor Reviewer (SCAR) for a potential contract to begin in the next sixty days. These positions are responsible for ensuring the appropriate operational security posture is maintained for DOD IT systems.

Current DOD 8140 level II certification required, such as: CISM or CISSO or CPTE or CySA+ or FITSP-A or GCSA or CISA or CISSP or CISSP-ISSEP or GSLC or GSNA

Primary Responsibilities:
The Security Control Assessor Reviewer (SCAR) role shall take directions and implement tasks from the SCA and/or AO office. The SCAR shall be skilled and capable of performing the role of SCAR for the customer, defining an assessment team.

Primary Responsibilities:
The Security Control Assessor Reviewer (SCAR) role shall take directions and implement tasks from the SCA and/or AO office. The SCAR shall be skilled and capable of performing the role of SCAR for the customer, defining an assessment team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess security controls on behalf of the customer’s defined Security Controls Assessor (SCA), in accordance with the SAP.
- Develop the SAP and validate assessment results provided by the ISSOs or other security personnel.
- Review the information system’s Security Assessment Package and document their findings in a SAR along with the organization/information system risk assessment.
- Conduct independent assessments of security controls implemented on Air Force information systems.
- Review and validate Security Assessment Reports (SARs), Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), and other RMF documentation.
- Provide expert recommendations to Authorizing Officials (AOs) regarding system risk posture and accreditation decisions.
- Collaborate with system owners, ISSOs, and cybersecurity teams to ensure continuous monitoring and compliance.
- Interpret and apply NIST SP 800-53, DoDI 8510.01, CNSSI 1253, and other relevant cybersecurity standards.
- Participate in cybersecurity inspections, audits, and readiness assessments.
- Maintain awareness of emerging threats, vulnerabilities, and mitigation strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- At least 10 years of experience in security assessor roles.
- DoD 8140 level II certification
- Experience with eMASS, ACAS, HBSS, and other DoD cybersecurity tools.
- Strong understanding of RMF lifecycle, security control assessment methodologies, and federal cybersecurity compliance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and analytical skills.
- Prior experience working in a DoD or military academic environment.
- Familiarity with Air Force cybersecurity processes and tools.
- Knowledge of classified and unclassified system environments.
