Job Summary
Newberry Group seeks a Deputy Chief Engineer with the ability to support the GSMO-II program within our DISA end-client.  

Location
This position is primarily remote; however, travel to GSM-O sites is required when necessary and candidates must be within commuting distance to either Scott AFB, IL or Ft. Meade, MD. A DoD Secret clearance is required to start.

Primary Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
  • Manage and provide technical guidance to a virtual team of Project Managers, Solution Architects and Technical Leads
  • Analyze government customer requirements, concepts of operations documents, and high-level architectures to develop system requirements specifications
  • Guide government customers in formulating functional, hardware, and/or software requirements, advise alternative approaches, and conduct feasibility studies
  • Support the evaluation and analysis of design and performance behind current and future technologies and architectures used on the GSMO-II programs
Team Management
  • Manage and develop a team of technical professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure their success and growth
  • Develop and manage team budgets, resource allocation plans, and performance metrics to ensure effective team management
  • Mentor, coach and provide feedback to ensure success and growth of team members
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement and learning within the team
Project Management
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Solution Architects, and Technical Leads to ensure successful transition of the GSMO-II special projects innovations to operations
  • Collaborate with team leadership to define technical priorities and guide system development and implementation planning
  • Facilitate problem-solving to manage risk, remove impediments, and drive program-level continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment and coordination of efforts
Customer Engagement
  • Conduct senior-level customer presentations and demonstrations, and support proposal and ROM responses for new GSMO-II capabilities and ongoing enhancements
  • Interface with government customers and attend technical meetings to brief technical solutions, status, and issues
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government customers, contractors, and other industry partners
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to customers to ensure successful implementation and operation of GSMO-II systems and services
Strategic Planning
  • Evaluate new technologies, platforms, and enhancements to expand and enhance the GSMO-II program
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve program goals and objectives
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities for innovation and improvement, and develop plans to pursue them
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve program operations and outcomes

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., computer science, engineering, information technology) and 12+ years of related experience, or Master’s degree with 10+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with people management and development, including performance management and talent development
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate status and present to both customers and program leadership
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and attention to detail, with experience managing and developing technical teams
  • Experience with cloud implementations, software-defined networking, AIOps, and data-driven operations
  • Experience with capability deployment across the full system lifecycle, including design, development, integration, test, and sustainment activities
  • Experience with large-scale cloud native architecture design utilizing industry security standards
  • Currently possess an active Secret security clearance
  • Leadership experience utilizing Agile methodologies
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing technical solutions that meet customer requirements
  • Ability to travel to customer sites (<15%) when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Top Secret clearance
  • Experience with DoD processes, DoD Cybersecurity accreditation processes, DISA operations, and Cyber Risk Management Processes
  • Experience with SecDevOps processes and cloud migrations
  • Experience with specific technologies, including:
    • AWS GovCloud IL5/IL6
    • CI/CD Pipelines
    • Robotic Process Automation
    • Application Migrations to the Cloud
    • ServiceNow (TSM, TSOM, and OMT)
    • ELK Stack / Kafka
    • AI/ML-based Automation
